DOES ECOWAS HAVE A LEADERSHIP THAT COULD HELP KEEP THE CONTINENT AND REGION TOGETHER?

26

The President of the Ecowas Commission has stated that negotiation is to begin for the severing of relation between Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger and the rest of Ecowas for their departure.

The facts are clear that if an economic and monetary union was in place the regional organization would have been so closely linked that any departure Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger would have come to realise, if they do a proper cost analysis, that they have more to gain to be in Ecowas than leaving.

As the negotiation proceeds Foroyaa calls on Ecowas to visit its composition of the council of the wise. It would have been their role to prevent any fragmentation of the community. This is the time for such an institution to be put into action to prevent unelected leaders from taking such a monumental decision on behalf of their people, which would lead to the fragmentation of the region, and by extension the continent. Knowingly or unknowingly, wisely or unwisely regional communities were and are still seen as the continental blocks of unity.
