The Gambia Police Force is investigating a suspected case of staged robbery at the Younna Microfinance office in Kalagi Village, West Coast Region.

Confirming the incident to Foroyaa, Police Public Relations Officer Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo said initial reports received on 25th April 2025 indicated that Amadou Jawo, a 28-year-old microfinance operator, was found lying inside his office with his mouth tied with plastic.

Jawo was initially escorted to the Sintet Health Centre and later referred to Bwiam General Hospital, where medical examinations revealed no injuries.

“Subsequent investigations revealed that the robbery was staged by the suspect to conceal financial mismanagement involving D140,000. It was further established that he was assisted by one Alieu Sanyang of Kalagi Village, who is currently at large,” PRO Sisawo stated.

He said the suspect, Amadou Jawo, has been apprehended and is currently in police custody, cooperating with investigators. Efforts are ongoing to trace and apprehend the alleged accomplice.

The Gambia Police Force has assured the public of its commitment to ensuring justice and urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of Alieu Sanyang to report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
