The visit of Xu Qin, Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Heilongjiang Provincial Committee to sign multiples of projects should educate Gambians that the Communist Party of China is not relating only to parties that call themselves communist parties in African countries.
The Communist Party of China is now the ruling party in China and in China one does not separate party from government. Hence the rice projects during the Jawara regime and at the latter part of the Jammeh regime provides ample evidence of the relation between the Communist Party of China and the past governments. Now the Barrow administration is intensifying the relationship between his government and the Communist Party of China. In short, any government that happens to be in The Gambia, irrespective of what it calls itself is likely to have the same relation with the Communist Party of China.
Foroyaa will monitor the projects being initiated and their outcome. Gambians should however realise that unless they themselves rely on their own efforts to build their own self-reliant economy, their country will continue to be dependent on aid instead of mutually beneficial development cooperation. A dependent country cannot be an independent country that is able to relate to all other countries on the basis of sovereignty and good neighbourliness. That is what the country should strive for.
