Many families cannot find peace during the rainy season because of the flooding of compounds due to construction of buildings on wetlands. A visit by the Minister to wetlands in the Kanifing Municipality has led to a call for demolition of buildings in compounds in the given area. It is significant for advice to be sought before engaging in a demolition exercise.
Housing is a necessity. Homeless families are in a worse state than those living in buildings erected on wetlands. Before there is any demolition of any building efforts must be made by the Central Government in collaboration with regional governments to provide shelter for those living on wetlands.
A government must always take responsibility for improving the lives of the people. It’s duty is to improve services and not to negate them to the detriment of the population. No government will ever earn integrity by making its population or any part of it homeless.
