On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Dembo Ceesay, a native of Mamuda Village, appeared in the Brikama Magistrates Court before Magistrate SM Dem. Ceesay is accused of willfully demolishing a compound gate and concrete pillars belonging to Mengeh Ceesay.
The case was called in court, with Police Prosecutor Cadet Assistant Superintendent Touray representing the Inspector General of Police. The accused, Dembo Ceesay, appeared in court unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge. Ceesay faces one count of willful damage to property, in violation of Section 312 of The Gambia’s Criminal Code. According to the charge, Ceesay allegedly demolished a compound gate and concrete pillars, valued at 25,000 dalasi (approximately $500), at the Mamuda Village residence of Mengeh Ceesay in December 2024.
Prosecutor ASP Touray, in his submission, indicated that he had no objection to the accused being granted bail, noting that the offense is bailable. He requested that the case be adjourned. Magistrate S.M. Dem, in his ruling, granted Dembo Ceesay bail with the conditions that he pay an amount of 100,000 dalasi and provide two Gambian sureties. The case was adjourned until April 3, 2025, for further proceedings.
