Spanish born goalkeeper of Gambian descent who plays for Scottish League One club Inverness Caledonian Thistle Musa Dibaga has opened up on receiving his first call-up to the Senior Scorpions ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Kenya and Ivory Coast.
The 24-year-old shot-stopper, who started playing football under 17 years and made his way up in Spain, joined Inverness CT this summer and has made 28 appearances with 11 clean sheets.
Speaking to GFF Media published on Tuesday, Dibaga said he received the news about his call-up after training.
“I was on the car back to the stadium after training and [saw] the message and I was so happy but at the same time I couldn’t believe it yet. And after that I started buzzing and my teammates and we all were happy,” he said.
“You always have that dream at the back of your mind but you always try to go step by step and until it’s not like an actual thing that can happen, you never believe it. Back in Spain I used to play tournaments with Gambia, representing Gambia in Zaragoza and I always wanted to make it happen.”
Dibaga hopes to bring positivity to the team and have a smart competition with the goalkeepers to help improve the team.
“So we all push each other and that will make the team better and hopefully get more wins and get qualified,” he said.
Asked how he ended up being at Inverness CT, he said his mum wanted to move out from Spain.
“I had my grandmother in Scotland so me and my older brother moved in there and that’s how I started. Obviously last summer Inverness came in knocking on the door as a sub goalkeeper and I started there. Luckily I got my minutes and the coach called me,” he explained.
