The unilateral increase in transport fares by commercial drivers has compelled Foroyaa to contact the president of the Gambia Transport Union (GTU), Mr Omar Ceesay and the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) to find out what is responsible for the increase.
The first institution to be approached is the GTU. The current president of the GTU indicated that they have not officially reached an agreement on transport fares. According to him, he advises the drivers to retain the current transport fares pending consultation to agree on them.
The ministry will be contacted to find out when an official meeting will take place on the fares.
