A delegation of seven Executive Directors from the African Development Bank (AfDB) arrived in The Gambia this week for a high-level consultation mission aimed at assessing the effectiveness of the Bank’s investments and strengthening development partnerships.

The delegation, hosted by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Affairs, is visiting as special guests of President Adama Barrow from February 24 to March 2, 2025.

As part of their mandate, the Executive Directors conduct periodic visits to regional member countries to evaluate project performance and align AfDB support with national development goals. The mission will include meetings with key government officials, including President Barrow and Minister Keita, as well as discussions with representatives from key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, energy, health, and fisheries.

The delegation will also engage with development partners to explore opportunities for enhanced collaboration under The Gambia’s Refocused National Development Plan 2023-2027.

A significant portion of the visit will focus on project site inspections. The directors will tour the Sukuta Women’s Vegetable Garden, part of the AfDB-funded Gambia Agriculture and Food Security Project, as well as the Senegambia Bridge, formerly known as the Trans-Gambia Corridor Bridge. These visits aim to assess the implementation progress and gather feedback from local beneficiaries.

As members of the AfDB Board responsible for approving development projects, the Executive Directors will use their findings to guide future investment decisions, ensuring that Bank-funded initiatives effectively support The Gambia’s economic growth and infrastructure development.

The visit underscores the African Development Bank’s commitment to fostering sustainable economic development in The Gambia through strategic investments and multilateral cooperation.
