Ghanaian captain released After 44 days in detention

By MUHAMMED SAILU BAH Ebenezer Numo Justice, the Ghanaian captain of a fishing trawler, who was held since 22 June 2015, has finally been released from detention. Captain Justice was released on Wednesday, 5 August 2015, after having been detained for 44 days.Talking to the captain on the phone after his released, he told this reporter that he was bailed by one of their shipping agents. When asked whether he was charged, he responded in the positive but added that it was not disclosed to him. The fishing trawler captain said he is supposed to be reporting on bail to the police at Banjul headquarters every Friday. Another source expressed hope that the fishing trawler, which is presently under guard by the navy at the jetty at Wharfi Njago in Banjul, will soon be released to its crew. It was reported that the fishing trawler captain was held by the navy on 22 June 2015 and later transferred to the police the following day where he was detained for 3 days before being taken to Mile 2 prison where he spent the next 44 days before his eventual release on bail.]]>
