Hundreds of desperate youth who stormed the Department of Labour yesterday are evidently in dire need of employment in order to earn an income and live a decent life. They are ready to do all sorts of job, even if it means picking fruits, without knowing the terms and conditions of employment.
It is the duty of the government to protect the rights of its citizens. The terms and conditions of employment must be spelt out to the applicants before they sign any contract of employment so that they know in advance what they are getting into and assess whether it is worth the while.
This should include the wages to be paid, the hours of work, insurance, accommodation. They should also be informed about the cost of living. 1000 euros is sufficient for a high standard of living in The Gambia but is that the same in Spain?
Foroyaa will find out from the authorities whether they have already received the terms and conditions of employment from the employers and what they are. This will be published so that interested persons can decide whether to get a form or not.
