ARE CONSUMERS OF IMPORTED FOOD GETTING QUALITY FOR MONEY?

11

There is need for consumers to strengthen their association in order to collaborate with FSQA so as to fully monitor the quality of rice and other food products that are finding their way into The Gambia.

A consumer has reported throwing potato peels in a bucket only to have maggots spreading all over the bucket overnight. There is need for those responsible for food safety to sensitise the public to report any findings of such incidents, including pest infestation of expensive rice like ‘saddam’ as locally called.

There is a definite correlation between the food we eat and the health of the population. The poorer the quality of food the more illnesses like diabetes and other stomach related problems will increase.  Inflation should never be curbed by relying on food of poor quality.
