The conflict between the administration and staff of the University of The Gambia (UTG) has impacted on the deliveries of lectures and the conducting of examination on time. Consequently, examination that should have taken place in December has now been postponed till January 2025.
Foroyaa has been reliably informed that the students union of the University organised a procession to deliver a petition to the administration counselling that all efforts be made to resolve the conflict so that classes could resume the soonest to facilitate the immediate resumption of all academic and administrative functions at UTG and prevent another postponement of examinations that are scheduled for January.
Unfortunately, the case affecting the lecturers is to be heard in court today.
The lesson is clear. An effective and responsive students’ union and staff association are vital in promoting dialogue conciliation in case of conflict between staff and administration. We therefore hope that the counsels before court would be able to settle this matter.
