The Gambia is now a major focus of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) and Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) which are established to protect journalists in Africa in particular and the world at large. Continuous interrogation of The Voice’s editor-in-chief by the police has led journalists all over the world to focus on the issue of media freedom in The Gambia. The international community is likely to show more interest in cases where political party operatives are testifying against a journalist.

The Attorney General should set up a team to review what was being said on social media prior to the publication of certain stories by a registered media house. This will enable him to advise the government to know whether certain publications help or hinder the clarification of rumours and false news.
