Mr Demitri Roopnarine and Yuri Roopnarine have recently donated fifteen computers and other learning materials to schools in rural Gambia.

These philanthropists have been rendering such gestures to many schools across the country. The gesture according to stakeholders is meant to complement the government’s efforts in terms of providing quality education to students. The two philanthropists are based in Canada.

Dee Roopnarine, who spoke on behalf of the donors, said he has been doing philanthropic service for a long time and believes in supporting students and communities especially those in developing countries.

“I encouraged Demitri Roopnarine and Yuri Roopnarine to support those who are battling with their education in terms of acquiring learning materials,” he said.

He said that the learning materials donated were assembled by Demitri and Yuri in Canada and then made sure that they were transported to the Gambia for further distribution to schools.

Mr Lamin Conteh, a Gambian businessman in Canada who facilitated the transportation of the learning materials, said he has a passion for helping vulnerable students who want to learn, but struggle to get basic learning materials.

“I cannot do much because I don’t have the capacity as of now but any time Demitri and Yuri gathered materials, I will make sure that they reach the Gambia as soon as possible,” he said.

Mr Conteh said he would facilitate the delivery of such support to the Gambia.
