Foroyaa has been receiving reports of shortage of essential drugs like paracetamol, normal saline and oral rehydration salt. But when we approached the authorities recently after we had confirmed that this was true for the pharmacies and drug stores we visited, the authorities denied it.
Foroyaa will further its investigation and also look forward to the outcome of the inquiry of the Gambia Competition and Consumer Protection Commission on the sudden increase in the price of saline.
Needless to say, an essential task of a government that is committed to serving the people is to ensure that essential drugs are available, accessible and affordable. This is key in meeting the health needs of the people.
