Foroyaa has long established as a universal principle that the non-state and state media should adhere to at all times, that the truth should be published in good faith and in the public interest. When what is published is true, no one would have the authority to accuse the publishers of violating any law.
It is however another principle of journalism that one may publish what one believes to be true. When such a principle is applied after sufficient investigation, one may publish a rejoinder that serves as a rebuttal of what is published in order to accommodate any rebuttal of what is published.
In a meeting with the minister of information, the elders of the media did explain that differences in good faith are bound to surface. Hence consultation between state and the media community should continue in order to ensure steady flow of information to the public. We therefore hope that the consultation initiative at the office of the minister would have impact in getting the state to withdraw the case connected with the Voice publication and maximum effort done to open up continuous conversation.
