The Ministry of Agriculture has officially been renamed the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security. This name change which was announced following a Cabinet meeting in August 2024 reflects the government’s commitment to a broader focus on agricultural development, livestock management, and national food security.
According to a dispatch issued by Permanent Secretary Mod AK Secka reads “The Government of The Gambia is pleased to announce the renaming of the Ministry of Agriculture to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Food Security. This decision was made at the Cabinet meeting held in August 2024.”
The announcement was shared with the media on Thursday, September 19, 2024.
The Government said the renaming underscores the Ministry’s dedication to advancing not only agricultural productivity, but also sustainable livestock practices and enhancing national food security. The Ministry is committed to integrating livestock systems into its agenda and bolstering the resilience of the country’s food supply chain.
