The Kombo East Youths and Children Development Alliance with support from B4L and BK West United have over the weekend completed its third phase of tree planting exercise at Faraba-Sutu Village.
The recent tree planting exercise marks the third phase of the KEYCDA, B4L, and BK West United’s “Goal for Tree” initiative. Over 300 diverse tree species were planted throughout the community, reinforcing their shared commitment to environmental sustainability.
Mr Lamin Jammeh, the Board Chairman of Kombo East Youths and Children Development Alliance said the “Goal for Tree” project was initiated before the commencement of the Kombo East District 2024-2025 football tournament.
“As an alliance, we don’t only limit ourselves to empowering the young people of our District but we deem it necessary to also protect our environment. In Kombo East, we have lost a lot of trees and the only way to bring those lost trees is to plant other trees,” he said.
Jammeh said so far they were able to reach out to three communities within Kombo East Districts and the number of trees planted is above eight hundred.
Mrs Binta Jarju, the Vice Chairperson of Kombo East Youths and Children Development Alliance, said the initiative will help communities to protect and take good care of their environment.
“In Faraba-Sutu Village we planted fruit trees in some of the compounds. This is not because the community is not doing so but is to complement their efforts and make sure that they continue to plant more fruit trees,” she said.
The KEYCDA Vice Chairperson said the initiative will not only stop at planting trees but will further go ahead to monitor the growth of those trees. “We will continue to monitor these trees we planted and we will make sure that the trees are also protected.”
Mr Alieu Sanyang, the Alkalo of Faraba-Sutu Village, commends KEYCDA, B4L, and BK West United for coming up with such an initiative.
“As a community, we embrace such developments because it will not only protect our environment but also motivate the community to take ownership of such initiative,” he noted.
