Portuguese National, Others Arrested with Suspected Cocaine at Airport

The Public Relations Officer of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG), Mr Ousman Saidyba, yesterday informed this medium that a female Portuguese National was arrested at the Banjul International Airport with cocaine.

The Anti-Narcotic Agency Spokesperson said the suspect was arrested by Officers of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency stationed at the Banjul International Airport.

“The suspect was arrested with a total quantity of two hundred and thirty-four pellets of cocaine. There was another suspect arrested at Baraka Estate in Bakoteh who holds a dual Portuguese Bissau Guinean citizenship,” he said.

“The Portuguese National at the time of her arrest was scheduled to travel to Lisbon, Portugal via Casablanca with Royal Air Morocco. Further investigations into the matter led to the arrest of Abdoulia Dembo at Baraka Estate in Bakoteh on the same day with two hundred pellets of cocaine concealed in a black colored school bag,” he said.

PRO Saidyba said both suspects are currently in custody while further investigations are ongoing.
