It is now known that provisions of the Constitution that could only be amended after a referendum are already stipulated under section 226 of the 1997 Constitution. This provision requires a bill to be published twice for a period of not less than three months and ten days before its introduction in the National Assembly.
The general public have been notified that a Bill to promulgate a Constitution is published on 14th August 2024. Of course Supplement “B” which should indicate the draft is still missing.
Foroyaa has approached the IEC to check its level of preparedness for referendum in terms of voter registration and the actual referendum. We hope the press conference to be held today will clarify all the technicalities of publication of the Constitution Promulgation Bill and its laying at the National Assembly so that the air will be cleared on what is to be done before a referendum is held.
