A CONSTITUTION IS NOT A PARTISAN INSTRUMENT

When the Coalition won the election in December 2016 people envisaged many reforms. The president elect stood as an independent candidate and the agenda for reforms had no partisan base. The nation expected a non-partisan cabinet that would put the national interest first and proceed to build better instruments and institutions for the country. Seven years later political parties are pointing accusing fingers at each other for obstructing the road to constitutional reform.

Foroyaa will show the Gambia people how to rise above the blame game so that clarity and conscience will guide the nation and her people in their quest for a better constitution.

First and foremost, Supplement “B” should be made available for people to know the content of the Draft Constitution that should be gazetted by the Barrow administration. The propaganda in the state media in defence of a draft constitution that is not published does not encourage a high rate debate to enlighten the Gambian people on an important subject matter.

The country now requires voices that will enable people to understand issues, not voices of protests that cloud the vision of the people.
