The Bakau Development Committee (BDC) last weekend inaugurated and handed over a newly constructed computer lab to the Bakau Upper Basic School.
BDC is community base that is established with the aim of promoting community development.
At Bakau Upper Basic School some classrooms were refurbished and the refurbishment among other activities were sponsored by the National Assembly Member for Bakau constituency.
The funds that were used for these developments came through the constituency development funds allocated to National Assembly representatives.
In her remarks, the principal of the Bakau Upper Basic School, Madam Aja Fatou Gassama Jammeh, commended the NAM for Bakau, Hon. Assan Touray and the Bakau Development Committee for the gesture.
She said both the lad and the equipment in it will help the students in their quest for better education. “Constructing this lab here for us signifies the importance of technology in modern-day education.”
The principal further highlights that the school is the only government upper basic school and appeals for support from philanthropists and partners to help equip the home science and carpentry classrooms respectively.
Speaking on behalf of the National Assembly Member for Bakau Hon. Assan Touray, Mr Lang Sanneh head of the education sub-committee of the Bakau Development Committee said, parents and teachers must work hand in glove to embrace the provision of conducive environment for teaching and learning at all times.
He urges students to take learning seriously and make good use of the lab as technology is key in education, especially in the 21st century. He also urges parents to take responsibility for their children’s education seriously and monitor them in school as well.
Mr Momodou Dibba, the principal of Daddy Jobe senior secondary school, who is a close collaborator in the implementation of the project commend the Bakau development committee and Hon. Assan Touray for the laudable initiative.
“As parents your primary responsibility is to monitor your children’s progress at school. Participate and involve yourselves in the day to day activities in school” he noted.
