Mr Louie Moses Mendy, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE) on Tuesday 23July informed this medium that his Ministry is administering massive promotion of teachers.
Recently, teachers have raised concerns over the delay in their postings. In the past, teachers did know their postings before the closure of schools, but this year, they are yet to know their fate.
“Teachers should not be worried about their postings. It is true that in the past, teachers knew whether they were returning to the previous school or not before schools were closed for summer, but this year it will be late,” he said.
PS Mendy said the promotions they are going through will affect postings because it will cause a lot of displacement of teachers which is why they haven’t released the posting list yet.
“For instance, if you are a head teacher B and you are promoted to head teacher C you may be transferred to a new school that tally’s with your promotion,” he said.
PS Mendy said his Ministry is undergoing this massive promotion of teachers because it has been a while since teachers have not been promoted and they keep stagnant at the same position.
“We have realized that some teachers have been in the same status for a while now and they are due for promotion. That is why we are going through their files from one school to another to make sure that those who are due for promotion are promoted,” he explained.
“The promotions will affect postings. That is why postings are not yet out. We don’t want to post teachers and after their promotions, we start to repost them again. We want to do it once and for all,” he said.
PS Mendy said it is painful for teachers to be in the system for many years without being promoted whilst they are due for promotion.
“We are reviewing everything that is why postings are delayed this year, but once we are done with the promotions, we will release the posting list,” he noted.
