A prosecution witness Monday testified that he recovered a cutlass from Gorgi Sowe (Yugo Sowe), who is charged with attempted murder.

Prosecutors alleged Sowe cut his wife on her hand and legs multiple times using a cutlass, resulting in serious injuries.

Officer Drammeh informed the court that they (officers) arrived at the crime scene around 4 to 5 am and found the accused among the people gathered at the scene

Counsel O. Susso inquired about the distance between where they found the accused and where the alleged incident occurred. Officer Drammeh estimated the distance to be around 300 meters away from where they found the accused and the actual crime scene.

Further questioned about whether they found the accused with any incriminating item that would suggest that he committed the crime. Officer Drammeh confirmed that at the time of the encounter, he had not noticed any items that would suggest the accused’s involvement in the crime, highlighting that their approach was initially based on suspicion

Susso questioned Officer Drammeh about the accused spending the night with his second wife. Officer Drammeh indicated that the accused had indeed spent time with his second wife until a certain point in the night, but could not specify the exact time the accused left the second wife to visit the washroom.

Officer Drammeh testified that the second wife stated that the accused had informed her that he was going to the washroom, but he had not returned before she fell asleep leading her to believe he had gone for over an hour.

Officer Drammeh emphasized that the second wife had been awake when she claimed the accused spent over an hour away from the room, suggesting her awareness of the timing.

Officer Drammeh attempted to clarify the situation by explaining that the second wife could not have known the exact time of the accused’s return as she was asleep upon his return.

Officer Drammeh recalled recovering a cutlass from the accused’s house, with the second wife present during the retrieval.

Officer Drammeh confirmed taking a photo of the recovered item before its retrieval, highlighting the importance of third-party impartiality in such evidence gathering. He acknowledged the second wife’s involvement in the process, Officer Drammeh justified her presence by asserting her lack of interest in falsifying information against her husband.

He testified that he was enrolled in the police since 2013 and rose through the ranks

Following the completion of questioning and the state counsel’s request for the witness to be discharge, the court granted the request and discharged Officer Drammeh.

The case has been adjourned until July 23, 2024, for further proceedings and deliberations.
