THE DANGER OF CLOGGED DRAINS DURING THE RAINY SEASON

37

The NRA has to have inspectors who will go around during the rainy season to find out whether the drains that are to be unplugged before the rainy season have gone through the process.

The Serrekunda market area is mostly paved and water must move to drains where they could be emptied, but the drains are still clogged in many locations. It is either that the NRA has no sketch of where the drains are located and in that case, their inspectors should seek information from the compound owners in the market area or rely on their sketches to locate plugged drains. We are now moving towards August and it is likely that the rains will be very heavy this season.

To avoid flood in the urban area, the water must find its way to the pools where the drains are built to empty the water. It is also time to discover any poor construction of drains and therefore try to develop a plan to remedy the situation. There should be a special desk officer on clogged drains and connected matters at the NRA to receive complaints from the public.
