Foroyaa has commenced its investigations into the claims of importers of bags of cement that the charges paid to customs when they import bags of cement was suddenly increased six fold for the same number of bags of cement. Upon request Foroyaa has been shown receipts, but the information from the receipts is not sufficient to verify the claim.
The importers also claim that their transport are still loaded with cement at the border, but will become bankrupt if they were to pay the D180 per bag instead of the D30 per bag that they used to pay.
Foroyaa will contact the GRA for more clarification.
It is important for the government to make it clear why there has been this increase.
