The National Assembly of the Gambia is set to commence the Second Ordinary Session of the 2024 Legislative Year on Monday, 24 June 2024.
The development as unveiled by the Office of the Clerk is expected to run from 24th June to 24th July 2024.
This information was unveiled in a press release from the Clerk’s Office, in which the Office indicated that the President, H.E Adama Barrow, according to section 77 (1) of the 1997 Constitution of the Republic of the Gambia, and in line with Standing Order 24 shall deliver his State of Nation Address (SoNA 2024)
“The Office of the Clerk of the National Assembly wishes to announce for the information of the general public that the Second Ordinary Session of the National Assembly in the 2024 Legislative Year shall be convened for the period Monday, 24th June – Wednesday, 24 July 2024,” the statement said.
According to the presser, members will also consider Government businesses, questions to Hon. Ministers for oral answers, Reports of various Committees and Parliamentary delegations of the National Assembly, Motions, and Bills.
“The State of the Nation Address (SoNA) is scheduled for Thursday, 27th June, 2024 at 10:00 am prompt. Admittance to the event of the SoNA is strictly by invitation to the Assembly Chambers, while the outside tents would be open to the general public,” the Clerk’s Office reiterated.
As indicated by the office, the daily Sitting of the Assembly also commences at 10:00 am, and all those who wish to attend the daily sittings are requested to obtain admittance from the Office of the Clerk.
“The public is reminded to comply with the standard dress code (traditional/ suit) required and also to observe the silence rule during proceedings,” said the Office of the Clerk.
The debut sitting of Monday is arranged to kick start with a communication from the Chair, to be followed by the correction and approval of the record of votes and proceedings of the National Assembly Sitting of Monday, 22nd April 2024.
Thereafter, the Finance Minister will appear before the legislature to deliver a statement under Standing Order 94(1)) Oral Ministerial Statement on the Implementation and Monitoring of the Annual Budget.
The Sitting for Monday will continue with the First Reading stages of several, such as the National Security Council, the Judicial Officers’ (Remuneration and Other Entitlements), and the Vetting Bills 2024, by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dawda A. Jallow.
The Assembly is also scheduled to consider and approve the Code of Conduct for National Assembly Members of the Gambia, by the Hon. Chairperson of the Privileges and Ethics Committee).
