Abdoulie Bah and Salif Camara both working as security officers for Ali Baba Garden were remanded at Mile 2 Prison by Principal Magistrate Sallah Mbye of the Kanifing Magistrate’s Court. They were charged with murder. The two allegedly killed one Aboubacarr Ceesay.
Murder under Gambian law carries a sentence of life imprisonment or the death penalty. According to the particulars of offence, the two security guards (Abdoulie Bah and Salif Camara) on or about the 12th day of May 2024 at Ali Baba Garden in Senegambia caused the death of one Aboubacarr Ceesay by hitting his forehead on a concrete floor.
Prosecutor CIP Inne Jallow informed the court that the charge is a capital offence, punishable by life imprisonment on conviction. She submitted that the magistrate court lacks the power to try the case. Therefore, the prudent thing to do is to transfer the case to the Special Criminal Division of the High Court relying on Section 62 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CPC).
She further asked the court to remand the two accused persons pending their appearance before the high court relying on Section 208(A) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
The presiding magistrate granted the application and remanded the accused persons.
