Four Die of Kush in three Months

The Regional Director of Health Services on Thursday, 9 May 2024 disclosed to the press that four people had died as a result of the consumption of the harmful drug, kush, within three months.

Regional Director Mr Musa Camara said: “From February 2024 to date, we have recorded four deaths that are related to the consumption of Kush.”

The Regional Director of Health Services made this revelation during a press conference held at the National Drugs Store Center in Kotu.

Mr Camara said from February to date, the health ministry has registered eighty-nine cases related to the consumption of Kush. The cases were reported to the various public hospitals within Kanifing Municipality and Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital in Banjul.

He said out of the eighty-nine registered cases, eighty-seven were males and two were females, adding that all the reported cases are between the ages of fourteen and forty-eight.

Readers could recall that the Drug Law Enforcement Agency – The Gambia and its sister forces in February 2024 established a task force to crack down on the traffickers and consumers of the dangerous illicit drug, kush.

The task force, which comprised members of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency and the Ministry of Health, revealed that sixty out of the eighty-nine cases are Gambians.
