Gambia award winning philanthropist Abubacarr Jawara on Friday, 8 March 2024 distributed food stuffs worth seven million to The Gambian people for Ramadan.
The package comprises 5000 bags of rice, 1000 cartons of tomatoes, and 2000 bags of sugar. The distribution, attended by President of Supreme Islamic Council Imam Essa Darboe, Imam Abdoulie Fatty of Bakoteh, Jawara Family and NPP supporters, took place at GACH Global headquarters in Bakau.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Abubacar Jawara, CEO of GACH Global Group, said the food aid is part of the company’s contribution to alleviating the difficulties some Gambians are faced with and most especially during the month of Ramadan.
Jawara said it is worthwhile distributing food items worth seven million dalasi to the people of the Gambia, considering the current economic challenges confronting the entire globe.
“We cannot reach everybody, but at least we want our efforts to be felt by some Gambians. We are doing this for the sake of God. We have decided to make it a priority to help needy Gambians whenever possible. We have processed and paid for everything. This year, we are donating 1000 cartons of tomatoes, 2000 bags of sugar, and 5000 bags of rice. That is what my group was able to gather with the help of God to give to needy Gambians,” philanthropist Jawara explained.
Essa Darboe, President of Supreme Islamic Council, said it is very crucial to help those in need of food, most importantly in the holy month of Ramadan. He applauded Jawara for what he described as humanitarian gesture.
Supreme Islamic Council President Darboe commended the Jawara family for such a wonderful initiative.
“It’s rewarding in Islam to help the poor and needy during the course of Ramadan. This gathering is very important for the Muslim Ummah and I urged other people to emulate Abubacarr Jawara,” he said.
Imam Abdoulie Fatty also expressed delight for the distribution of food stuffs to help people in the period of Ramadan.
He also mentioned that Mr Jawara has been assisting Gambians in all walks of life. He called on people to render support to needy people.
“Spending in the month of Ramadan is rewarding and is also important to invest for the course of humanity and most importantly during the Ramadan,” he added.
Mafugi Ceesay, Communications Officer of GACH Company, said the event is historical in nature because the Foundation has been distributing food items every year.
Mr Ceesay said it is important to give back to one’s country, “It is a great reward to give back to the people.”
He noted that as a Foundation, they will continue to help the needy and poor for the betterment of all.
