Alasana Bah, a 42-year-old koranic teacher, has pleaded guilty to the charge of raping a 13-year-old. He appeared before magistrate Fatou Darboe Jaguraga of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court.
The incident happened on 15th of February 2024 in West Coast Region.
The charge sheet was read to the accused person in his native language, Fula and he pleaded guilty. He told the court that “The charge read here against me is true.”
The prosecution Bangura, in his statement before the court said the teacher on Thursday, 15th of February 2024, intentionally and under coercive circumstances engaged into a sexual act by raping a 13-year-old girl who at the time was his student.
The accused person, who is an Oustass has a ‘Madarasa’ (School). Prosecutor Bangura for the Inspector General of Police said the girl and her mother came to the Brikama main police station to lodge a complaint against her Oustass. He said the allegation was the Oustass had on multiple occasion had sexual intercourse with her. He explained that the Oustass was called for questioning and he confirmed the allegations as true. He said the police obtained statement from the Oustass while the victim was escorted to Brikama Health Centre for medical examination.
The Police tendered four (4) photos of the crime scene, the medical certificate, the cautionary statement and the voluntary statements of the Oustass. The documents were admitted in evidence by the trial magistrate and she adjourned the case. She ordered for the accused person to be remanded at the police station. The police will continue with their narration of the facts of the case and there will be sentencing at the end of the case.
