Mustapha Jallow Eliman Njie, a Police Prosecutor attached to the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) at Police headquarters in Banjul, has gone missing since Sunday, 31 May 2015, after leaving his house, according to his wife. Mrs. Mariama Njie, alias F.O., said on that fateful day when her husband told her that he was going out and would be back, he never returned home. The wife, who is pregnant and looking very desperate, told Foroyaa that two days after her husband failed to return home, 6 men in plain clothes, believed to be state security agents, came to their residence at Churchill Town on 22 June around 6pm asking for him. She said she told them that her husband did not come home for two days. “Again on 24 June, two men in plain clothes came to her and identified themselves as police officers and asked for my husband’s whereabouts. They told me that they are my husband’s friends and are working in the same place with him at the police headquarters in Banjul. I told them that I’ve not seen or heard from my husband since he set out of the compound on that fateful day,” said Mrs. Njie. Mrs. Njie said since the disappearance of her husband for 29 days now she has been facing a lot of difficulties in terms of maintaining the household as they have 4 young children who need to be taken care of. “With this heavy pregnancy, I’m having it is very tough to manage the household alone without the support of my husband who is missing,” said Mrs. Njie. She said they have still not heard from him or know his whereabouts. When contacted on the disappearance of Police Prosecutor Njie, ASP David Kujabi, Public Relation Officer (PRO) of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), told this reporter that he is aware of it but will find out and get back to Foroyaa.
