Principal Magistrate A. Mendy of the Brikama Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 14 February 2024 transferred a murder trial involving a resident of Sanyang to the high court.

Musa Camara was arraigned before the court on a single charge of murder. According to the charge sheet, Musa Ceesay on 24 December 2020 at Sanyang village, Kombo South District, West Coast Region intentionally caused the death of one Abdul Aziz Camara by hitting him with a stick on his head.

Assistant Superintendent Buteh Sawaneh and Corporal Bangura appeared for the Inspector General of Police. The accused person was not represented by a counsel.

Corporal Bangura said the charge attracts a life imprisonment, which the magistrate lacks the power to hear. He made references from the Criminal Procedure Code and Legal Notice Number 3 of 2009 by the Chief Justice to support his application for the case to be transferred to the high court.

Principal Magistrate Mendy granted the application and transferred the case to the high court. She remanded the accused person.
