June, 2015, according to a close source.A senior staff of the embassy told Foroyaa that the Gambian
authorities through the ministry of foreign affairs last Thursday, 25
June, ordered the handing over of the embassy to the staff
and the departure of all Police Intervention Unit personnel from
the premises.
The re-opening of the Libyan embassy is taking place barely less than
a month when the Gambia Government ordered for its immediate closure
and which, according to them, is due to the existence of two rival
governments claiming for legitimacy in their home country.
The senior staff at the embassy indicated that they are now expecting
a letter from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs today, Monday,
authorising them to continue with their normal operations as a
diplomatic mission in the Gambia.
It could be recalled that it was twenty days ago that the Libyan
Embassy in the Gambia was ordered to shut by the Gambia Government.
This was also confirmed when a Foroyaa reporter visited the embassy
and found pasted a notice on its wall and it reads as follows: “The
Embassy regrets to announce to all staff and visitors that the Libyan
Embassy is shut down on the 9th June 2015 until further notice”.]]>
