A Gambian player is on the verge of clinching, for the first time, the Senegalese Premier League title, 
Foroyaa Sport can report.
Stade de Mbour are in the race for the coveted Senegalese Championat -First Division – title. The club scooping the trophy will see Gambian-born Yaya Kujabi claim his first medal in Senegal.
But for Kujabi to attain his dream his fourth-placed Mbour of a side must beat off competition from leaders AS Douanes, Niarry Tally, Diambars and Suneor who are all in the battle for the domestic championship.
This is the first time the Gambian attacker is being involved in a title run-in since moving from Interior FC.
Yaya’s recent stride is the result of patience having made the long walk from the second tier with Kaloack-based ASC Saloum.
He made the switch to Stade de Mbour only during second round of the league and for his contributions, is slowly turning to a revered figure amongst club fans.
Speaking to Foroyaa Sport from his base in Mbour, a city in Thies region, eighty kilometers South of the capital Dakar, Kujabi is buoyed of laying hands on the league staked prize.
‘I still think we can win the league and possibly the FA Cup too,’ he said, adding ‘we are fourth with a difference of three points between us and table-toppers (AS Douanes who are on thirty-nine points). We are playing again them this coming Saturday’
Should all go as planned, the goal-getter could finish the season clutching two medals with his club also in the FA Cup hunt.
The erstwhile Interior playmaker is one of new breed of Gambian players crossing to neighbouring Senegal to seek pastures new.
The inevitable exodus is prompted by the desire to pocket better pay and get spotted by scouring football agents -Senegal is known to be a hot bed for them -with a view to signing for a European club.
Comparing the GFF and Senegalese league, Kujabi concludes: ‘Senegal’s (league) is ahead of Gambia’s (league). Is not like Europe though but you cannot compare it with our league back home. In terms of preparations, the football pitches and the style of play. Here they treat you like a professional and conditions are good.’]]>
