WHAT IS THE OBJECTIVE OF FPAC IN SCRUTINISING THE ESTIMATES OF BUDGETARY AGENCIES UNDER ITS PURVIEW?

68

It is the expressed view of the committee to scrutinise all the agencies under its purview in order to cut down the budget deficit. The Gambia is a heavily indebted country. The deficit as proposed by the Ministry of Finance for 2024 is 4.5 billion dalasis. This amount of money will have to be borrowed either domestically or internationally. Grants could only come by chance and not as a right.

Hence cutting down budgetary allocation enables the country to reduce the deficit and by extension the national debt. Foroyaa will examine where the axe will fall to reduce the deficit and the implication when the select committees complete their work.
