Police Charge Man for Cutting Wife’s Hands, Legs

One Gorgie Sowe, a resident of Jalambang village in the Kombo Central District was on Thursday, 16 November 2o23 arraigned before Magistrate F. Darboe-Jaguraga of Brikama Magistrate Court for allegedly injuring her wife’s hands and legs with a cutlass.

He was charged with assault causing grievous Bodily Harm.

Police prosecutor ASP Oli Bobb told the court that the accused person is charged with a capital offence, which attracts life imprisonment.  She said the court lacked the power to try the case and requested that the case be transferred to the high court pursuant to section 62 of cpc and section 208 A of the Criminal Procedure Code.

Magistrate F. Darboe granted the police prosecutor’s application, transferring the case to the high court as she ordered the accused person to be held at Mile 2 pending his appearance before the high court.

According to the particulars of the offence, Gorgie Sowe on or about the 15th day of November 2023 at Jalambang village, Kombo Central District in the West Coast Region, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable, unlawfully assaulted Amie Sowe with a cutlass on her hands and legs causing her grievous bodily harm.
