The fundamental objective of a Coroner’s inquest is to establish the cause of death and open up avenue for redress. Victims cannot establish cause of death for themselves. This is why a provision is created for a Coroner’s inquest for deaths of people in custody at sea and certain circumstances. Gambia has pathologists and laboratory that should have the competency to establish the cause of death of victims who die under suspicious circumstances.
Foroyaa hopes that the state will accept its responsibility to facilitate the conduct of such inquest so that the truth will be known and justice done without fear or favour, affection or ill will.
