The National Water and Electricity Company of the Gambia (NAWEC) had 36 shutdowns between January and September of 2023.
The shutdowns or breakdowns caused shortage of water supply or low pressure, and power outage or interruptions.
Foroyaa reviewed the NAWEC public notice on its Facebook page that contains all the shutdown updates.
The 36 shutdowns are caused by technical faults, heavy downpour, maintenance, burst water pipes, and ongoing constructions of OIC road project.
It affected more than 35 communities in West Coast Region, Upper River Region, Central River Region, Kanifing Municipality and Banjul.
The most affected communities are found in West Coast Region, Kanifing Municipality and Banjul.
The communities mostly affected are Banjul, Brikama, Kuto, Sukuta, Farato, Serekunda, Latrikunda, Bakau, Fajara, Nemakunku, Banjulinding, Wallengara, Bundung, Abuko, Lamin, and Daranka.
The duration of shutdowns and disruptions ranged from three hours to seven days.
Meanwhile, NAWEC has always been criticised for the insufficient supply of water and electricity in the country.
