DJ LAMIN CHAM DETAINED AT NIA FOR 11 DAYS

By Mustapha Jallow Foroyaa has been reliably informed that Lamin Cham, a music promoter and disc jockey (DJ), was arrested at the Banjul DJ Lamin ChamInternational Airport as he was about to board a flight. He has since then been detained at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) since Monday, 1 June, 2015. He is now held for more than 72 hours in contravention with Section 19 of the Second Republic Constitution of The Gambia. A close source said the family is allowed access to him at his place of detention in Banjul. DJ Lamin Cham, as he is commonly known, was said to be travelling to Europe on a music promotion tour. Apart from being a music promoter, the DJ is also the presenter of the weekly ‘Saf Connect’ television programme on Gambia Radio and Television Service (GRTS). According to the source, Mr. Cham’s travelling bag was returned to the family following his arrest and subsequent detention. The source, however, added that the reason for his arrest is not yet known but that the family is worried and concerned about his situation.  ]]>
