In an answer to a question at the National Assembly the Vice President did give contradictory statement which needs further clarification. He indicated that the government will submit the draft constitution for consideration by the National Assembly but added that the said constitution was being reviewed. This confirms that the vice president is talking about the submission of a new draft constitution and not the resubmission of the draft constitution which was rejected at the second reading of the bill in 2020.
Hence what should be said is that the draft constitution prepared by the CRC is now being used as a reference document for the drafting of a new text which would become a new draft constitution to be submitted for promulgation.
Foroyaa looks forward to receiving a new text and this time play the role it played in 1995 to ensure that the Gambian people know the content of what is intended to be the supreme law of the country before considering it at a referendum. Fortunately Foroyaa now has a radio station and will be able to review all the clauses in all the national languages to ensure that no one is capable of misinforming the public on the subject matter. Booklets will be produced as supplements on the various chapters with explanatory notes to clarify all issues.
