The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment (MOTIE) disclosed on their Facebook page that the International Labor Organization (ILO), in collaboration with the Government of The Gambia through the said Ministry, recently launched a post pandemic project called “boosting post-COVID-19 economic recovery and resilience in The Gambia,” through the formalization of informal enterprises and their workers in line with pillar 4 of the National TVET Policy on “apprenticeship and on-the job training for improvement on quality and relevance for a skilled manpower” in the economic sector.
The Trade Ministry in partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST) and the International Training Centre (ITC) of the ILO (ITC/ILO), yesterday commenced four day training using the ILO model.
The training delivery will provide for exchanges on progress and challenges on the implementation of a quality apprenticeship system in The Gambia, and will allow for the development of a “gap closure” plan at the end of the four-day training programme. It will also allow for knowledge sharing on apprenticeship development in other countries as well as emerging research on apprenticeships.
