As President Adama Barrow led the reintroduced National Cleansing Exercise called ‘Set Settal,’ he requested for the relevant authorities to implement the anti-littering law.
“The littering is too much in our cities and environment, and it is time for us to come out and do this cleansing exercise,” he said.
The president said if they are able to implement the anti-littering law, the issue of littering in the country will be reduced significantly. He said the laws prohibit littering and that it should be implemented to the latter. He called on Gambians to volunteer to clean their environments and also called on the journalists to use their platforms to sensitise people on the importance of a sanitised environment.
President Barrow added that nationalism and patriotism should be restored to promote national discourse as people can’t be forced to join the exercise but they should be encouraged instead.
He called on the people not to wait for the national exercise to clean their environments but should be doing it every day, in order to keep a clean and healthy environment.
The president thanked Mayor Talib Bensouda, his cabinet members and all the citizens that joined the exercise on Saturday, 28th January, 2023.
Mayor Ahmed Tablib Bensouda of Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) expressed delight about the exercise, saying it is crucial to clean the nation.
He said this is a step forward and that his Council is always ready to join in cleaning the nation.
