Gamtel yesterday evening brought their long wait for the GFF league title 
to a halt after beating Real de Banjul to secure the country’s major trophy.
It was record-breaking striker Yaya Ndong who handed coach Tapha Manneh his first ever title with his tenth goal of the season.
It was coincidentally the ex-Samger player’s first major trophy on a breakthrough year as he finished the campaign top-scorer with a tally of ten.
His goal made the difference yesterday at the Boxbar mini-stadium against the soldiers after Real de Banjul drew blank with SerreKunda United in another game on a
dramatic league final match day.
The league cup was Tapha Manneh’s, one of the country’s most revered coaches, only missing piece of silverware in his trophy closet having won all medals Gambia domestic football has on offer. The ex- U-20 and his telecom giants are still in contention for the FA Cup, a title they’re looking to win a record fifth time.
Gamtel missed out on CAF competition this year following a shock FA Cup exit the previous term and winning the 2015 league which secures automatic place to the Caf Champions League preliminary qualifiers couldn’t be any better consolation.
Amid a trophy-less run, a thing viewed as a disappointment by fans, reports are already riffed suggesting Amat Cham could get the sack barely a year into the job. It however remains to be seen whether trigger-happy Real’s board will act with 12 months more left on Cham’s two-year contract.
Elsewhere Interior are demoted to the second tier on the back of their 0-0 score with Wallidan along with Bakau United who beat Banjul United 2-1. Bakau’s relegation 
however hinges on outcome of the club’s appeal against Wallidan for allegedly using an ineligible player.
Meanwhile, Gamtel secures one million Dalasi as winners of the First Echo sponsored league.
