Today the IEC will complete the first step of the exercise. The whole nation is waiting to know who will be their candidate in the forthcoming presidential election.
The development so far will again teach Gambians that inducement and intimidation are means to promote self-perpetuating rule. The capacity to make informed choice is what makes the citizen sovereign who only votes to promote the interest of the people and the nation. The nation will wake up on Tuesday to a new reality when the accepted candidates commence their campaign. Will there be 25 participants or will some withdraw to leave room for others? The future will tell.
