The Gambia has on Tuesday registered two new COVID-19 related deaths, bringing the number of deaths, since March 2020, to one hundred and forty-six.
The country has also registered fifty-eight new cases of the deadly coronavirus, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases ever confirmed in the country to four thousand, six hundred and twelve.
The median age of the new cases is 34. 11% of the newly confirmed cases are contacts of recently confirmed cases, 15% (8) were ill and seeking healthcare, and 58% (31) were tested on account of intending to travel.
This is the 267th national situation report since the confirmation of the first case of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in The Gambia on 16th March 2020.The Gambia currently has one person in hotel quarantine and three hundred and seventy-seven active cases.
Modou Njai, the Director of Health Protection and Education at the Ministry of Health, said a total of one thousand three hundred and ten new laboratory test results were received from the Medical Research Council and the National Public Health Lab.
Of these, Director Njai said fifty-eight new samples tested positive, representing a 4.2% positivity test rate.
He said forty high-risk contacts of recently confirmed cases were identified and their follow-up began in earnest.
Director Njai said seven COVID-19 patients were newly discharged from treatment centres.
“Twelve COVID-19 patients are currently on oxygen therapy,” he said.
