A group of Pacharr citizens in The Gambia based in Europe and America on Thursday 14th January, 2021, donated educational materials to Pacharr Lower Basic School in the Central River Region.

The donated items, estimated to worth over D15, 000, included two cartons of exercise books, two cartons of white and color chalk, school bell, four black boards, rulers, six attendance register books, 300 pieces of vanguards, 8 packets of pencils, and four (4) packets of pens, among others.

The donated materials were presented to the Senior Management Committee (SMC) and the staff of Pacharr Lower Basic School by Mr. Silo Fatty on behalf of the diaspora group.

Established in 2019, the Pacharr Association aims to support Pacharr village with the numerous needs in terms of development, as they believe that the community cannot do it alone.

Presenting the donated materials to the beneficiaries, Mr. Fatty said the group wants to give back to their community to contribute towards quality education delivery to complement government’s efforts.

Mr. Yaya Camara, the head teacher of the school, thanked the donors for giving back to their community, particularly in the area of education.

Mr. Camara further said: “The materials came at a time when the school is dire in need of them.”

He promised that the donated items will be used accordingly, while appealing for more support, especially in the area of fencing, saying stray animals intrude their garden.

“I’m calling on any philanthropist to support the school through this diaspora group,” he said.

Speaking on behalf of the SMC, Mr. Sidia Darbo, thanked the donors while imploring other groups to emulate the gesture by rendering more support to the community.
