The National Assembly this year approved the allocation of fifteen million dalasis to media entities in order to strengthen them in the face of Covid-19 outbreak. The Ministry of Information and Communication Infrastructure instituted a mechanism to ensure accountability and transparency in the use of the fund and to avoid its abuse and misuse. He set up a management committee that managed the disbursement of the fund according to guidelines to be observed by all beneficiaries.
Each media entity that benefited from the fund had to submit a budget that conforms to the guidelines and also signed an agreement to spend according to the budget submitted; money spent on items not listed will have to be refunded. The fund is also subject to auditing by the office of the auditor general. Diverting funds for political propaganda is therefore not possible under these circumstances.
