QUESTION OF THE DAY
The Election of 2016 and the peaceful transfer of power in 2017 took place under the 1997 Constitution. After the change many people started to talk about a third Republic that would usher in a more democratic Gambia. They advocated for the drafting of the Constitution of the Third Republic through a wider consultation than had ever been done before.
Now that the Bill is before the National Assembly partisan consideration of the Bill may abort the third Republic unless the members give a rethink to their role as the ushers of the third Republic. They alone can make or break the birth of the Third Republic. Foroyaa will continue to monitor the sittings on the debate on the draft Constitution.
