Modou Njie, the Director of Health Promotion and Education at the Ministry of Health on Thursday said twenty-six commercial vehicles were recently arraigned before court for overloading and increasing transport fares.
He said thirteen of them were charged and fine with five thousand dalasis each and the other remaining thirteen are to report to court again.
He said a Nigerian national was picked up by the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) stationed in Brufut for travelling into the country illegally from Senegal; adding he was handed over to the quarantine team,” he said.
Director Njie said the first phase of the refurbishment of the isolation centre is completed and awaiting official handing over to the Ministry of Health.
He said the Fajikunda Major Health Centre’s Isolation block benefitted from a facelift. Case definition reviewed and updated to reflect current realities and awaiting finalization and dissemination, he said.
Director Njie said plans are underway to provide two trainings related to psychosocial support, adding these are psychosocial first aid to response workers and counselling skills to social and case workers.
“The Ministry of Health will engage private pharmacies to report clients presenting flu-like symptoms to the RRTs,” he said.
He said they will consider testing low-risk contacts before discharging them upon mandatory follow-up and also strengthen surveillance at all points of entries.
